Representatives of NGOs Learn About “Peer-to-Peer” Education Principles

27 June 2012

June 25-27 – UN Population Fund (UNFPA) jointly with Social Initiatives Support Fund (SISF) organize training for representatives of local NGOs on “Coordinating peer-to-peer programmes – promoting healthy lifestyle”. This training of trainers is aimed at raising capacities of NGOs in interactive educational techniques and coordination of programmes and initiatives based on principles of peer-to-peer education.

The “Healthy Youth” project is being successfully implemented by SISF since 2007. Along with UNFPA, partners in this project are Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health, Center for Youth Initiatives “Kelajak Ovozi” and UNFPA’s Y-PEER network.

The initiative has become part of President’s Programme for 2009-2013 “On improving reproductive health of population, birth of healthy children, and formation of healthy and spiritually-developed generation”

The “Healthy Youth” project is aimed at development and popularization of educational programmes on HIV prevention. Active young people aged 15 to 25 participate in various training initiatives and workshops, counseling sessions and youth actions in Uzbekistan and Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Through interactive and informal methods participants learn about HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted infections. They also understand that awareness, information and healthy lifestyle are best in preventing and combating these diseases.

More than 20 representatives of NGOs from Tashkent and regions will take part in the training.
